I love so much about social media, but the constant connectedness to everyone's (sometimes fairly ill-informed) opinions and the post-2016 is-this-fact-or-cleverly-disguised-right-wing-propaganda mental filter every post gets shoved through in my brain makes being present as not-a-bot Very Freaking Hard Right Now.

I've also got a brick! Sometime I use my phone less and sometimes I don't. I definitely use social media much less though. I had hoped I'd use my phone much less altogether but I also know from the fourth week of The Artist's Way when I cut out all reading (including social media) my brain very much DOES not like all distraction methods being removed at once so I recognise it might be better to try cut down on phone use bit my bit. Especially as I still don't have many IRL friends in Manchester (depression and mild agoraphobia don't lend themselves to meeting new people - who knew?) and so I do spend a lot of my time at home so I feel needing some distraction now and then is warranted.

Betty - I feel you on a spiritual level. I bought a brick but haven’t started using it. I really need to though. The internet to me just seems to highlight my shortcomings. It intensifies my anxiety and depression, even though sharing can help. I also hate journaling. It’s so hard. I don’t have anything else to say but that I fee you. I’m here. I love you.

It’s the best tool I have for quitting the internet. It’s brilliantly designed! Try using it just for a few hours a day <3 Maybe from noon-5pm? Then extend a little at a time!

Journaling — yeah, it’s super rough. What’s helped me has been journaling all my tarot readings. It’s super structured and not about how I feel.

Love you <3 Keep me posted!

For me, the internet is better when I avoid the algorithm. Of course instagram prefers you to endlessly scroll suggested content, but you *can* just switch to your following feed and see your friends' posts in order. That's all I've ever wanted to see anyway!
